Default Warranty! Do’s and dont’s

You guys have been more than helpful with tips and help, so I’m gonna start the nuclear debate.
Knowing that I am well past my 60 day threat of voiding my 2 year factory warranty, call me crazy, but I got the 6 year extended warranty on a 2018 SG. NOW: question is, first, this is what I want to do. Put on Cobra Neighbor Haters, the SE pro street tuner, and a SE wedge big breather, to keep my stock 107 cover. Doing this, would this in anyway affect my extended warranty? Not worried about the 2 year, just the extended? Why the cobra’s? Because I despise the sound of the Street Cannons. I tried getting a hold of ppl at the dealer I purchased it at but have not heard back yet and it’s not just down the street.

It all depends on the dealer you take it to for repairs. Some will make any repair without question. Other dealers will void your warranty for putting a different brand of tire on the bike. As for how the ESP folks work with your choice of repair shops; they will process most dealer claims with few questions while Indys will have a shop visit with heavy scrutinizing for claims over $1K.
Bottom line, talk to the shop manager who will be doing your repairs.

The Magnuson Moss act covers this. They have to prove a modification led to the issue being warrantied. Example, putting an aftermarket exhaust on, and them not covering a transmission issue.

Read your warranty. If your warranty basically extends your factory warranty, and your factory warranty is voided due to you mods, then your extended warranty is void too.

A few threads back someone said to check with my dealer so I did yesterday, and my current warranty will not be voided for the mods I want to put on. They said the mods have to contribute to a breakdown in order to void it. Which was nice. Pretty much any and all “Bolt on’s” will not void it. However, the moment I myself crack my motor open with the exception of a fluid change it would be questionable. Or if I mess with the electronics I.e. radio GPS. In fact if I take the faring off to change bars it would be questionable. Now this here is something I found neat, if I do a stage 3 or 4, threw my dealer, I could in fact get a “new” warranty that would carry with and passed the expiration date of my current one, which is what I thought anyway but of course you pay for anything over 1 or 2 years, depending, which is a hole different topic. But those guys were helpful. Cali’s emissions standards really screwed things up since 2006

Bad tappats I got the extra coverage that will cover hotel stays and over the road fixes, you know, that little option most guys just say no to. I figure what’s it gonna hurt to have my tow covered if need be. I didn’t get the wheel coverage option, or tier 4, I got the tier 2 which covers the electronics and motor. I think 3 was wheels and 4 was wheels, paint and some other stuff. I’m not a computer wiz at all but know my way around a motor so I figure why not get the gizmos covered

You mean like adding an adjustable tuner?

If any POWER MODS can be seen to over stress the engine, drivetrain or chassis components, then bet your bottom dollar, the Dealer or Mother Harley could deny warranty coverage! Who has the most money to litigate, you or Harley?

If you designed and built a motorcycle @ a certain HP and torque and insured reliability, would you want someone like BUBBA, the neighborhood specialist, to double the HP and torque until the engine/ drivetrain implodes?

Lately I've heard that the only safe way is to allow the HD dealer to install THEIR approved, Screaming Eagle parts and they won't void the warranty.

Even the EPA wants them to void the warranty because ANY power increases has to come from more fuel and air and a freer flowing exhaust that increases sound and all of that violates the Federal standards.
