Default Rear Brake Rotor Bolts

Here is a question for all you gurus out there. I am installing a used take off rotor on the back of my Road Glide and wondering if I can go to Lowes and buy the bolts there? $25 for 5 bolts seems crazy and I know they tell you not to reuse your old bolts. If you know the size and specifications that would be great too.

Reuse your bolts. They're fine. Blue loctite.

Over and over I've seen people following the 'do not reuse' theory. It really only applies to torque-to-yield bolts, which these are not.

This sentiment comes from the fact that the standard bolts come with thread lock pre-applied. Harley's own chrome bolts do not come with it pre-applied, instructions tell you to put your own on and do not state single use only.

Tires and brakes are things never to skimp on. Is your life really worth a gamble of 25 bucks? Buy proper bolts and throw old ones away. Those bolts stand between you stopping safely every single time and your head popping like a zit when it slamms the back of a semi truck.

To new guys, please don’t dick around with your brakes. Always follow your manual and not some numbnutt on a forum.

Reuse them. The torque spec for them isn’t even close to rendering them unusable. Blue Loctite.

where do you get $25 for 5 bolts? the chrome bolts may be that much, but the stock bolts are not anywhere close.

Having never seen a rotor bolt break from applying the brakes, I'm not overly concerned about replacing the bolts with new ones. But that's just me. You certainly aren't endangering yourself by replacing them with new bolts.

The brake rotor bolt is ( in essence ) a use one time and discard "critical" fastener ... Having been in the automotive service business all my life ( I'm getting ready to start my 70th trip around the sun ) I generally take head to service bulletins that advise professionals on service procedures ... Might you use them and have success? Maybe ... Have I seen, in person, a rotor and / or sprocket fastener fail and lead to major complications? Yep, more than once !
