Default Rear Sprocket Bolts Keep Loosening

Good morning everyone.

I am having an issue with my rear sprocket bolts on my 2006 Road King coming loose. I have tried loctite and it seems to not have helped. Anyone have this issue before? I have found a mechanical locking solution that will help. Just wanted to see if yall have any experience in this area.

I've had them back out on a 00' RK I used to own.. You might want to make sure the threads in the hub are in good condition.

They are a one use only item. Probably for the reason that they wear. Having said that I've re-used mine twice without issue. Maybe pick up a new set and give it a whirl

You need to start over. Replace them with proper Harley fasteners. Check the fit of thread in the hub. Then put proper primer and red permanent grade Loctite. Torque properly. My guess is they are low quality chromed China fasteners or your hub is messed up. Usually, if they come loose, aluminum threads are damaged. It may be possible to save hub by studing it with grade 8 studs and use grade 8 nuts. Best probably to replace it all if damaged.

Use a bottom tap on the holes before you install the new bolts...Book calls for red locktite and I never reuse those bolts. They are Grade 8 bolts.

A tap cuts, a chaser cleans.

Not sure what I did before I bought my thread chaser kit many years ago, but it is the MOST used tool in my tool box these days...

There are many thread restorer (thread chaser) kits around, very similar to this one...
