Riding to Texas

Riding to Texas
I have a question, my friends and I have always wanted to ride to Texas. I am thinking sometime in the fall. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best month to travel through the southwest? Is there a month that is generally worse than others. I need to get this planned with my group.
Thanks

April/May and October/November are your best bet for good steady temps. About half the time our winters have 60s or better if your below Waco and 70s below San Antonio.
The 3 overnight rides I do with my buds that are distinctive.
Big Bend. Wide open mountainous desert
Hill Country. Roughly 1,000 square miles of great roads, pit stops and twistys
East Texas. Centered around Nacogdoches. Piney woods cruising bigger then some east coast states.

I rode from Livermore Harley Davidson to San Antonio last October to bring my Ultra home after moving from Brentwood. The ride was great, I rode Hwy 10 most of the way with some exploring here and there. I had some rain outside of Alburqueue other than that it was pretty comfortable, I wore a light denier Harley jacket or a heavier windproof, waterproof Harley fleece (bought it at Livermore HD) sometimes just my vest and long sleeve t-shirt, and blue jeans. I would second the opinion of October and spring, but be ready for quick heavy thunderstorms.
Texas is a great place to ride, being a relative newcomer to the state I am still exploring, several have recommended Big Bend to me and there are several websites that detail the park. I have ridden the hill country a bit north of San Antonio, it is beautiful and worth the trip. Twisted Sisters is an amazing ride and enjoyable too. We have some of the best briskets in the country, tex-mex is an experience and most of the people here are pretty cool. Let me know if I can be of any help, if I don't know I will research it as best I can.
