I was surfing eBay and saw brand new (not OEM) King Tour Packs for $154 plus $13 for shipping. How can that be? Are they really that crappy?

Not possible if we are talking about a true tour pack. I just installed the avanblack but with HD mounting hardware (I chose to use HD hardware) It was still around $1000. ( I bought the chopped with wrap around backrest)
HD does not sell one with with the factory Amber Whiskey color, Avanblack does and the paint was perfect.

Tour pack in round numbers $725 with tax and shipping
HD mounting hardware and luggage rack roughly $300

 

Just remember, you get what you pay for.

 

No doubt. I was just wondering how bad they had to be to be at that price point.

Probably a Chinese knockoff. Maybe okay, maybe not.

My guess is Not. Where is it shipping from? Direct from China? If so I would pass.

Doesn't look big enough to be useful but for that money I wouldn't be expecting much when you open the boxes.

 

it's a king pack knock off. amazon has them list from many different sellers.. search youtube there are several reviews on there. they aren't bad for the money. most say the latch hardware seems cheap

 

I was wrong (again)
I did see the OP's price on ebay. I dont know what the difference may be, but hope he posts about it if he buys one.
I paid $785 for my avanblack on Amazon, shipped directly from HongKong/China, fully painted in Amber Whiskey (paint was spot on, could not find any defects). I did buy HD OEM lugguge rack and mount instead of theirs. So add another $250 or so.
Once it shipped, it arrived weeks ahead of schedule and I was amazed when it did ship, they shipped it air freight. It arrived within 4 days.
Im very happy with it, we will see it it holds up. I believe the latches were improved over ones offered just a year ago, I dont know, but all I can say is they feel and latch just like HD OEM latches.

I bought the "chopped" with the wrap around backrest for my wife. Something HD to the best of my knowledge doesnt offer on the chopped.
I do feel the covering on the wrap around back rest feels a little "soft" "thin" plush. I hope it holds up AND I do need to go to an HD dealer and see, maybe the "feel" is the same. I dont know.

 

I bought a pair of lowers made by the same company in the ebay ad. They were worth the money in my opinion even though the snaps broke off the pseudo leather glove box doors. They were only 75 bucks I think. I didn't expect much but they worked and would have probably lasted a couple of seasons had I continued to use them...probably longer.

In my opinion, that tour pac is WAY better for the money compared to the stuff us riders had to choose from just a few short years ago. Not the best by any means but it'll work in most cases......for awhile.
