Cool Daymaker Substitutes

Has anyone had experience with cheaper substitutes for Harley's Daymaker headlight?

There are several knockoffs of the projector style LED headlamp available on eBAy, Amazon, etc.
Wondering if they are worth trying or just junk?

tks,

Jav

One word: Sunpie.

I bought my Sunpie LED headlight and both LED passing lamps from Amazon for about $100.00 and they have been flawless.

It's not much cheaper than the Daymaker, but I love the Custom Dynamics ProBeam headlight.

JW Speaker makes the Harley LED Headlights -- you can usually save a couple of hundred dollars by buying them durect from JW Speaker or from Dennis Kirk - still not cheap though..

I second the sunpie light. I was very hesitant to buy an aftermarket light. I have had it 3 months and wished I had bought it a long time ago. I bought the 3 light kit for under 100 bucks and it lights up the road and the side of the road much better than stock. I trimmed the bucket to make the light fit and did not need any additional rings. there is a video on u tube

Now that you mention it, I had to trim or adjust "something" to get the passing lamp bulbs to fit, but I can't remember what it was. It was very minor, though.

We actually just did some tests of our ProBEAM headlamp comparing it to the Daymaker and Sunpie units. Check out the results below!
Note how much wider and evenly spread the beam is on our ProBEAM unit when compared to the other options.

STOCK HEADLAMP

^Stock Rushmore lamp, high beam

DAYMAKER

^Daymaker, high beam

SUNPIE

^Sunpie, high beam

PROBEAM

^ ProBEAM, high beam

My personal feelings are that you should buy the best one you can justify. Keep your eyes open for a while and snag a deal on a higher quality unit.

Aesthetics also play a part here. I don't care for the projector style ones so much but I do rather like the Truck Lite reflector unit, I picked one up used for $100 and I couldn't be happier with it. I looks great to me and it does an excellent job of lighting the road. There was also an independent test done (link around here somewhere) where the TL unit I have was quite well received.
