Angry Serial mistake - how to contact H-D?

I have a Sportster 48 from 2017. The model with the current 49mm fork. Purchased the Signature Headlamp part #67700355, LED Headlamp Housing Kit part #67700455 and Mounting Block part #67746-11. According to H-D website these are the exact parts required for a Sportster 48, 2010-2017 XL1200X.

Be warned.

The mounting block does not fit. It is more than one inch too tall and a half inch too far back, so the new housing will interfere with the speedometer, and just look wierd on the bike due to the mounting position.

This is apparently a serial mistake, but it seems H-D doesn’t care or still haven’t been made aware of the issue.

Furthermore, the included Wiring Harness part #69201838 is wired incorrectly, two wires are switched so the lamp gets no negative. Even more disappointing only three wires are mounted when it should be four. The fourth is for the parking light function.

Such poor quality control is saddening, and my local dealer told me to try to find a solution on google! No support at all.

How do I contact H-D to make them aware that they are making a serial mistake?

If the headlamp really doesn't fit with the parts specified by HD then hopefully you have the same laws there as here in the UK. That is the part is not fit for purpose.

If you purchased them from a dealer then they have a responsibility for selling you the parts and cannot dismiss you. You have a contract of sale with them and not HD. Check terms and conditions of sale as mostly you should also be able to return goods.

Check your sales of goods act.

It might be the parts you have are for US made bikes and not for overseas. If you purchased through a dealer like above stated, they should correct. If you bought mail order, you may be able to return with a restocking fee.

Sounds like you have the wrong part for your bike, go back to point of purchase and discuss with them. My local dealership would give me zero issues with a mistake like that and would work hard to find me the correct part. HD is a lot of things, but bad with parts and replacing them when they gave the wrong one is NOT one of them. They are actually very good about stuff like that, including warranty of new parts that fail. Good luck.

Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas. Searching google I see that even two years ago the issue with the wrong wiring in the adaptor was mentioned by a customer on H-D website, but apparently they didn’t bother to look in to it.

My H-D dealer told me they never sold or mounted that headlamp for a Sportster 48 with the fat 49mm fork. Herein lies the mistake from H-D. The lamp will fit a 48 with the 39mm fork, but not the 49mm that has different dimensions.

The dealer does not find any solution, and just offers to return the parts for a refund.

I am a mechanical engineer and will design a mounting block that fits. So maybe I will have the only Sportster 48 with 49mm forks and Daymaker Signature in the world?
