Did the M8 kill off Harley??
Sad to post that Harley just reported their 2nd Qtr results today and it is in freefall as a business. http://investor.harley-davidson.com/...5-a100f4163446 2nd Qtr of the year should be the strongest for a motorcycle company and yet HD has collapsed according to their Qtrly report this morning. Remember that 2018 was a dismal year for HD and yet 2019 is making last year look amazing.
HD can forget about $30K electric bikes and unproven Adventure bikes. These bikes will never make a big enough improvement to the Income Sheet fast enough to matter. If the launch of their "bread & butter" 2020 Touring bikes is not a HUGE success, I predict massive upheaval for this company in the next 12 months. Nothing would surprise me. Takeovers by BMW, Polaris, Honda or even Venture Capital. And a complete sweeping out of the current management. Next month's launch of the 2020 bikes with be make or break for the Harley-Davidson company as we know it.
- Revenue is DOWN 4.7%
- Net Income DOWN 19.3%
- EPS DOWN 5.2%
- Motorcycle income DOWN 25.8%
- Financial Services DOWN 6.2%
- Every region of the globe was DOWN in sales
- P&A DOWN
- General Merchandise DOWN
- It looks like motorcycle sales could very well fall below 210,000 units for 2019 which is simply shocking.
- The only bright spot was TOURING BIKES - UP 2.2 share points

we've entered an era of transition, which takes time..they are and will adapt..they made it 115 years so far..I do not foresee the doom and gloom you project

OTOH, if the 2020 Touring bikes are a huge success and return the Income Sheet to Growth or at least stability, then I agree with you that the market will give their E-bike strategy time to be proven out. If the Touring bikes collapse further after the launch of the 2020 models.... you can turn out the lights.
I'm rooting for their success with the 2020 Touring bike launch and plan to be one of the 1st in line if they surprise everyone with terrific new models. But if the 2020 bikes are just a warmed over version of the 2019 bikes and they remain over-priced, outdated technology, weak performance and weak features when compared with the competition, then you can count me out. And I suspect I won't be alone.

he's just all butthurt over his sumpers and wants to propagate negativity constantly..I tend to think the MOCO is listening to Jerry's words over his
I see you've got your list out, say your piece and get out
Guess I get the gist of it, but it's alright
Sorry that you feel that way, the only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a touch of grey
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

The M8 has nothing to do with their financial woes. In speaking with a HD tech I know, the warranty percentages for '17, '18, and '19 thus far vs sales are on the same average as years previous. Sales in general are down. It's been widely discussed that the reason for the decline is that HD was slow to react to a shift in buyer demographics and bike design. Simply put, HD isn't really sexy anymore.
Believe it or not, most people that want to buy a new Harley aren't afraid to do so.
