Default 2014 ultra limited fob/ pin issues

Having issues with my fob. It only works when it’s toward the front of the bike. I changed the battery with multiple batteries. Checked the voltage on the fob batteries to confirm 3 volts min and still will not work when placed in the tour pack like I have always stored it. Looking to find the pin for the bike to have it as a backup in case the fob fails but have no idea what it is. Is there a way to get the code out of the bike or the original factory set code. Don’t think it was ever changed

There is no factory code... The original security code is set at the dealer during PDI of each motorcycle. If you have a friend or know an independent shop with one of the pricey diagnostic tools, like the TechnoResearch Centurion Pro, they can see and change the code for you. A dealer can do it too, but unless you have a relationship with a dealer, a friend or independent shop will most likely be cheaper..

A long shot, but...

If the FOB, with a good battery, all of a sudden fails to connect as readily as it used to... check the FOB antenna. It is on the forward edge of the ECM caddy, over the top of the battery.

If you recently changed a battery, or were messing around with/around the ECM caddy, the FOB antenna can come off the caddy, and hang down in front of the battery. That will sometimes affect its range/connection.

Also check the FOB antenna connector to make sure it's making good contact.

Here's a pic of the FOB antenna on a '16 Ultra, it is highlighted with a red arrow. Yours should be in the same place...

The factory service manual (and probably your owner's manual) should have the procedure for changing the PIN as long as you have a working fob near the bike. Mine is a 2010, so not sure if the method in my book works. I changed mine without knowing the original PIN and it took all of 5 minutes using the procedure and the turn signal buttons.

Here you go. This is out of the owner's manual for a 2014 touring bike.

Changing the PIN
To maintain security, the rider can change the PIN at any time. Refer to Table 1.

Table 1. Changing the PIN STEP
NO. ACTION WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION NOTES
1 Select a 5-digit (1 thru 9) PIN and record on the wallet card from owner's manual.
2 With an assigned fob present, turn the OFF/RUN switch to OFF.
3 Turn the ignition switch to IGN.
4 Cycle the OFF/RUN switch twice: RUN - OFF - RUN - OFF - RUN.
5 Press left turn signal switch 2 times. ENTER PIN will scroll through the odometer window.
6 Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release. Turn signals will flash 3 times. Current PIN will appear in odometer. The first digit will be flashing.
7 Enter first digit of new PIN by pressing and releasing the left turn signal switch until the selected digit appears.
8 Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release. The new digit will replace the current in odometer window.
9 Enter second digit of selected PIN by pressing and releasing the left turn signal switch until the selected digit is present.
10 Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release. The new digit will replace the current in odometer window.
11 Enter third digit of the selected PIN by pressing and releasing the left turn signal switch until the selected digit is present.
12 Press right turn switch 1 time and release. The new digit will replace the current in odometer window.
13 Enter fourth digit of new PIN by pressing and releasing the left turn signal switch until the selected digit is present.
14 Press right turn switch 1 time and release. The new digit will replace the current in odometer window.
15 Enter fifth digit of the new PIN by pressing and releasing the left turn signal switch until the selected digit is present.
16 Press right turn switch 1 time and release. The new digit will replace the current in odometer window.
17 Turn the OFF/RUN switch OFF, then turn the ignition switch to OFF.
Pushing the OFF/RUN switch to OFF stores the new PIN in the module.

My PIN was set by the dealer, when I bought my 2015 UL. I've never changed the PIN...BUT about after a year of ownership, I had a few instances when I unintentionally had the alarm sound. About the same time, I decided to switch the factory seat with a Mustang seat. Once the factory seat was removed, I discovered the FOB antenna was not attached in the designated holder. In fact it was buried deep down amongst the wires.

Once I relocated it to it's proper position, I've never had the problem of the cycle "arming" the system or the alarm sounding unintentionally.

Long story short....FIRST check the alarm's antenna is where it should be.

Even if everything above checks out, you really need to do the pin procedure above and set the pin to something you can use. You lose your fob away from home and you are going to really wish you could start the bike with a pin.

The back of the owners manual has wallet cards that have the PIN starting procedure AND a place to record your PIN. That should be the first thing you do when you buy a new bike or make sure the previous owner gives the PIN to you.....or deduct a few $$ to pay the dealer to re-set it..

Just a suggestion....try using the first or last 4 numbers of your serial number....might work.

Most dealers are lazy. Try 11111 or 12121 or 12312. Bet its one of those.

Thanks guys. Found the pin by doing what the video said and my fob issue I believe was the antenna fell down beside the battery. Put it back on top and seems to be working. Thanks all of you

Great that all is well.....BUT now, I'd still do your best to get your PIN and write it down on that card which also contains the starting procedure. You might need it in the future (hopefully not), you never know.
