WTF??? won't start

My 2001 EFI Heritage will not start,I spun it over a good while and eventually the Battery started to get low but it spun a long while before. Spun it so long I started to smell fuel.Everyone say's they never seen a EFI not start, leave it to me,every thing I ever owned got this way. Any ideas?

If you smelled fuel then the fuel pump must be working (somewhat, anyway). Too much unburned fuel could wash down the cylinder walls and maybe contaminate the crankcase oil. Sounds like no spark from the plugs. Ya gotta love those little black boxes. I know there is a way to get 'trouble codes' from the black box on touring models, but I'm not too sure about the softail. I spotted a post about the Delphi systems 00-03 trouble codes. I don't know if I would try it on a softail without having someone with technical knowledge OK it first.

Earlier this summer i took my gauge cluster off. Afterward, my bike wouldn't start. I checked everyting and eventually found that when I plugged one of the instrument wires back together I bent one of the pins in the connector so it wasn't making contact. I straightened the pin and it started right up. If you have done anything similar lately I'd check that.

I have not run into this on a Harley but have seen it on a fuel injected Honda, that after too many turns of the on switch and running the fuel pump, we had to remove and clean (even on some occasions replace) all of the plugs as the had soaked in fuel for too long. Once the plugs were replaced it would fire right up.
