Default Rebuilding Fatboy forks

I just purchased a Heritage Springer that my buddy crammed into the side of a truck with a used Fatboy front end to go with it.

I've torn down the forks completely, shaved the legs and they're going to get powder coated, but my question is whether or not I need to buy bushings or just a new seal kit? What purpose do the bushings do? As far as I know this is a low mile front end, but I don't wanna have to tear it down again to save $30-40. Also what's a good brand of bushings and seals or just seals to get?

Thanks

There are two metal bushings in each fork leg. One is attached to the bottom of the upper fork slider tube. The other bushing is pressed into the top of the lower fork leg. As the suspension travels up and down the lower bushing slides against the inner wall of the lower fork leg and the upper fork slider tube, slides within the inner wall of the upper bushing. If the bushings are worn, there will be slop in the fork assembly resulting in poor handling and premature seal failure.

Search through JP Cycles. You'll find complete fork rebuild kits for around 30 bucks.

You answered your own question. No Doubt - rebuild and replace, know exactly what you have and ride with confidence, that's $30 that is priceless. Enjoy - post a pic of the finished product.

Default Heritage forks

I have a 1998 heritage softtail that the forks were badly bent, Will a a 2004 heritage triple tree forks and rim mount properly on an earlier model?
