Why Syn3 over a alternative full Syn?
Apparently Syn-3 is a 60/40 mix. Is there any reason why its better to use a 60/40 mix over a full Syn?
Syn-3 cost as much as the full syn alternatives likes AmsOil, Mobile-1. I am about to let the dealer do the 1k service. Looks like they will put Syn-3 in the crankcase and Formula+ in the Primary and Tranny. My last bike a 06 RK I was advised to use BelRay by the dealer in Va. I stopped there and bought some tune up fluids a couple months back and now they advise Redline No shock in the tranny. I was going to ask the dealer where I am now in Ga about alternative tranny fluid but they only carry Harley fluids, nothing else. So I figure I will let them do the Form+ this first change but I will try the Redline next since I have it. Still curious about a better crankcase syn oil over Syn-3, problem is just because something becomes popular does not mean its better. |

I always used full syn Amsoil 75/90 gear lube in the tranny. Here a year or two ago I was talked into trying that Redline stuff. I couldn't get that stuff back out of my bike quick enough, yet there are those who swear by it. I'm very familiar with oils as I worked in a lab for years. If interested IM me and reply privately and the reason for that there is a ton on here about oil and I have commented as well.

Yes there are lots of oil threads I should review. But occasionally the new info appears with a new threads . No doubt oil threads can lead down the rabbit hole. Lol.

For whatever reason syn-3 makes my bike vibrate like crazy! When i use anything else.. bike is smooth.. Tried Amsoil.. other fancy stuff all worked great. Right now I am using Castrol synthetic vtwin motor oil... 9.99 at pep boys... works fantastic and easy on the wallet.

Full synthetic or Dino. Short answer is engine noise

Bel Ray Primary Chaincase Oil for Primary ((1 Qt.)) The Heritage Springer has significantly less drag when starting and shifting. Both motorcycles are running great. I truly believe that using specific transmission and primary case oils is the smart thing to do. The all for one mentality is a money making ploy. Take care of your motorcycles and they will take care of you!!!! |
