Crossbones - a winter tale.

Here we go! My crossbones is on the lift. Getting ready to install a shotgun shock. Upcoming mods, apes, front fender, 103 upgrade kit, Samson true duals.
But, before I get carried away. Taking the shock off is no joke.

Here are the tools.

Using the special tool it is a very slow process. Kind of wish I had a drink. The way it is, I can only turn about a 1/4 inch at a time, then I have to turn the special tool, rinse, repeat. At this rate, it may take 2 days to remove it, and I still have the other side to take off. More later.

Well, the shocks are off. On to the next step.

Those shock bolts into the swingarm are a pain in the butt. Best tool I had for that was a 3/4" ratcheting wrench. Use it for 99% of the turning, and then torque as directed.

Of course, I also found it easier to change to the Shotgun Shock by removing the rear wheel. Not necessary, but it helps.

Good luck. Looking forward to another one of your fun threads!

I've got the shotgun shock, almost installed. Then, test ride.

Yeah, I managed to install it, with the rear wheel on. I did not want to remove the rear fender, and tire. But I like it a lot. Have to get used to it. Next mod coming up, replace stock front fender, with a heritage fender. Part 2 coming soon, stay tuned!

Yeah, I'm going to go with some black Samson 36" true diuals, I love how they sound on the HS. And they look cool, too.

Another build! Man you don't stop. Way to go.

That front fender is a job with all the spacers, there is a great thread on here but I think you've seen it correct?

Joe, I've been collecting these parts for months, then I got sidetracked by the heritage springer project. So, I'm starting now. Yes, I have seen the other thread, and I have ordered all the parts required, I believe. im pretty excited about this. The shotgun shock seems pretty freaking cool. I still have to get used to it, but it's great. Have you upgraded your shocks? I have to buy another jack for this, to get the front and rear wheel off the ground. Once I do this, I'm going to adjust the fall away, then I'll do the same for the HS. Maybe upgrade to the works shock on both, as well. I've heard great things about it.
