Default Rear axle bolt

Has anyone ever used WD40 on the rear axle bolt, softail 2001 manual states to use anti-seize, talked with mechanic and he said to wipe it down good and use WD40 instead of anti-seize lubricant. The only time I've ever used anti-seize was on threads.

Yes. In the axle (front and rear) you must use anti seize.

Thanks Valdemar,
Is there a recommendation of what type of anti-seize, or can you use just any as long as it's high temp?

I give the axles a good coating of waterproof grease to prevent corrosion that would make extracting them through the bearings very difficult.
They typically corrode in the dead space in the tube that separates the two bearings.

anti-seize or grease for axle bolt. any anti-seize will do, I like synthetics for grease.

wd40 is not sufficient. no offense to your mech but that's shade tree territory.
