Default Stripped Steering Stem Nut, won't come off...

I was TQ'ing the steering stem nut on my 2011 Rocker C, and had a sharp decrease in TQ right as I was anticipating the click at 70ft/lbs. Immediately tried to remove it, and with turning and some prying under it, managed to get the nut up about 3/16 of an inch. I obviously can't inspect the steering stem threads until it is all the way off, but from what I am seeing, and feeling, it seems I stripped the nut. But it doesn't want to come off. As a last resort I'll drill and split the nut on both sides, but was hoping you gentlemen had some less invasive ideas I could try first..?

Well I'm going to try and freeze the nut and see if that'll shrink it enough to grab, and if not drill and split I guess, since no one else seems to have any other ideas..

Default HF is your friend

Get a nut splitter cheap at HF. If they have them big enough should make fast & much cleaner work of it.

I'll check into that, thanks. For that 1.5" nut it is beyond the normal nut splitters, and the few I saw that are big enough, are really spend, and probably wouldn't fit in the neck area anyway. Looks like I'll do it by hand tonight

Snap-on and yes, I am in the aviation field, so everything I own, is calibrated, and I even double checked it afterwards... Not that any of that helps removed stripped hardware....

So I froze the nut and I got it to come off another turn or two, but that was it. So I split it, and unfortunately found that the steering stem was damaged as well. So ordered new nuts and a new lower triple tree w/ stem.
