My bike was sitting for a year. It was fine when I stored it.
I replaced the battery and started her back up but I noticed she would backfire out the exhaust when I pull the accelerator. I drained and replaced the fuel but it is still backfiring. I tried riding it up the street but it won't accelerate without losing power when it backfires.

 

Treat fuel tank with 4 oz of Startron fuel additive and run the engine. Recheck your battery cables and make sure they are installed correct, allconnections that are hooked to your battery are installed and tight. Also search the forum with regard to fuel line inside tank issues. I assume you are fuel injected

 

Sounds as though it's developed an intake leak somehow. Your bike is 10 years old, seals start to deteriorate after a few years. Start the bike and then spray a little WD-40 around the intake manifold. If the bike bogs down, there you go.

 

What do you mean by bogs down?

 

He means you should hear a change in idle like its struggling.

 

Sounds like the fuel regulator is not good if it loses power under acceleration.

Do a fuel pressure test and make sure it is a constant 58 to 62 psi no matter what the throttle position is at.

 

Turns out I over torqued one of the spark plugs. It was damaged by the cylinder head. I re gapped both plugs and replaced the ignition wires. She's running great!
