Default Sturgis, what a ripoff

Went to Sturgis for the first time this year. Just got back in fact. I'd always wanted to go.

I'm used to bike rallies jacking up their prices but jesus christ Sturgis takes the friggin' cake!

It's a joke. I don't understand why people put up with it.

We camped in the Black Hills and the riding was fantastic in and around the hills and Sturgis, but the rally itself is bogus.

I'll never go back, that's for sure, and I hope the price gougers go out of business and die a slow death. Bunch of greedy, avaricious jackasses.

Default No ****: Ripoff is nothing new!

I totally agree, I had my "Sturgis Awakening" at the 50th in 1990. NEVER returned!

As long as someone is willing to pay, someon is willing to sell. For now, we still have the choice to go or not go. I am not sure if we will always have that choice.

Whaddya` bet they didn`t buy insurance on the Full Throttle Saloon again. `Hope it burns to the ground again. Of course, after the last time it may cost too much to get insurance again....

I went this year for the first time myself and thought everything was reasonable except for a beer at the Buffalo Chip. I don't pay $6 for a 12oz adult beverage and went back to my camp, dug out a flask and returned to the party/pavilion.

I haggled with the T-shirt guy at one of the rally stores and got a damn good deal IMO on some rally shirts.

I'll be going back as I had a really good time and it was well worth the money I spent.

Sturgis for most people is a one time deal and the anticipation should be that things are going to be pricey, given that it is "THE" rally. Once understood, go and have fun and chalk it up as a good trip. I've been once and don't plan on going back. We stayed in Deadwood and had as much fun there as in Sturgis. It's like two rallies. Did all the riding, saw all the sites and spent a lot of money. It was a great 3400 mile trip..

The riding in the area is the draw. Most of what's for sale there is junk and border-line fresh out of china crap or a overzealous flee market. There are deals to be had in some areas and its a nice way to get some hands on for some of the different things if you are in the process of modding your bike. I recall swinging by the Danny Gray tent in rapid city and was able to test out a seat I was looking for and was offered 15% off. I hit the 75th last year as my first because it was the 75th and it was my first opportunity to go. I will go back because I have people down toward hot springs and the riding throughout the region is phenomenal. I'm sure as a whole its a rip off and if you limit yourself to only staying/going to the most popular joints, you will probably blow a lot of unnecessary loot. But tbh, 6 bucks on a beer (if its good beer) isn't outside the realm on my end.

I can't imagine hoping for a place to burn down. What did they ever do to you?

I'm not surprised...anything that gets that big instantly goes in to gouge mode. I will never go...that kind of scene isn't my bag anyway. Would love to do all the riding in the area though...but without all the clowns during the rally timeframe.
