That is until a guy I work with (long time Harley rider) talked me I to getting a full face. So tonight after work I went down and bought me a flat black full face helmet. It's actually pretty nice to wear going down the highway, I just feel like I'm doing something wrong wearing one on a Harley. Like I look like a big ole ***** going down the highway.

I know safety is most important, but there's an image to be upheld too, and all the DOT 1/2 helmets look like a mushroom so that **** wasn't going to work.
I wear a half helmet in the city and burbs where I do 95% of my riding. Peripheral vision is key in that environment.

Long rides, cold weather, or rain is expected I use a modular. Get one that will take a pin lock insert on the face screen. You can get an Anti-Fog insert that's the *****.

I have two full face, one modular, one 3/4 and one 1/2. I mix and match; however, I generally select by weather [not by fashion or expectation].

Here's the one I got. It's also got the dark shape that slides down behind the clear one. Kinda fighter pilot style.

Shoei GT-Air, I've always worn a full helmet on both my sport bikes or my Breakout.

I wear my Bell RS-1 Full-Face with the Transition faceplate. Works great in all weather, from cold rain to Southern California hot. Lots of HD riders in Southern California wear full-face helmets.

`Glad I was wearing mine when some chick pulled a left turn in front of me, and I went down nearly two years ago. The left side of my helmet had a 6 inch gash in it about 1/4 inch deep. `Wouldn`t have had much of a face left if it hadn`t been for the FF helmet.....

I'm wearing the full face more and more. I also wear a jacket, engineering boots and gloves.
I don't care what people think. Wearing safety gear is a good idea.

You sound like me a few years back. I grew up riding sport bikes. When helmet laws went into effect I wore full face helmets. Got my first HD about 10 years ago and bought a half helmet immediately. But F' me if I don't look in the mirror and see about the worst mushroom head I could imagine. So I went back to my full face cause it just didn't feel right. I had that bike for about 3 years, it was stolen and then I got back into sport bikes.
Then 3 years ago I picked up my Road Glide. Wore my Full face and again....it just didn't "feel right". Got a novelty beenie and tried that and that REALLY didn't feel right. I suspect its from so many years of wearing full face helmets.

So finally I just gave up. But you know what? Just going to work and back.....I pass at least 10 HD's a day. And if I had to guess, I'd say half or more are wearing full face helmets.

I'd even go so far as to say that it's in no way shape or form "uncool" to wear a ff helmet on a HD. I think those days are behind us.

So wear what you're most comfortable wearing. With little ones at home? I'd be questioning anything less than a FF too.
