Default Windsplitter install with no aux lights

This conversation started in the "Let's see those Softails" pics thread and to not steal from that pic thread here is this thread.

So I ordered Windsplitter windshield part #57400159 for my 2016 Slim. the description on this part says it fits with HD aux lighting.

When I got the windshield it only came with this hardware.

This alone does not make the windshield usable since the brackets on the windshield are way wider than the bolts located on the upper portion of the forks.

Someone out there does have some HD part numbers you can fit to make it work but I found that one of those part numbers is discontinued and places like ebay may or may not have them. I went with the spacer option.

So I went to my local Ace Hardware because they have a section of chrome plated or sometimes polished stainless steel fasteners. This is what I purchased.

I didn't quite get the measurements so I apologize but there isn't much to choose from when going with these particular lengths.

So it appears I forgot to lay the ruler up against the lower spacers. But the lengths are about 3/4"(2 of these) for the top, 3/8 (2 of these) for the bottoms and the small diameter spacer is about 1/8" (4 of these)

Notice that I have some smaller diameter spacers. This is to account for the recessed part of the side fork cover. see pic below on order I put these all.

From outside-In: bolt, chrome washer, plastic bushing, spacer & slightly small diameter spacer.

Bottom

Maybe a better pic so you can see how much it sticks out. Doesn't really bother me since I know it serves a purpose but I will most likely always have this windshield on. No one will notice how far they stick out.

a couple pics with the windshield on

Awesome write up! Thank you for all the information. Now I just need to find out if the dimensions are different on a fat boy. Thank you again!

Looks good. The only thing I would change is to have the spacers, washers and bolts powder coated black.

I would venture off to say that if you check on H-D website for your year model and the windsplitter part number is same as above then maybe it will fit.

Yeah. I thought about it but for me it's more work involved for something that is rarely going to be seen. I did powder the windshield brackets though.

Here is a pic with the proper parts for reference. I used all thread at the bottom instead of the bolt, to mount the indicators on.

The fat boy is listed under fitment for that same part number so I should be good. Thanks again!
