Default rear axle covers with quick detach on Heritage

I'm putting the quick detach saddlebag kit on my 12' Heritage, Harley says the axle covers will not work.. they have been wrong a time or 20 and I can not figure out why they wouldn't work.. nothing is mounted to them and the chrome cover isn't that thick.. is anyone running the covers with the saddlebags.. the axle looks ugly with saddlebags off..

I had that same thing with my Rocker and the pivot bolts covers, they swore they wouldn't fit. That is true with stock exhaust, but with my chosen aftermarket exhaust, they certainly will. That may be the same case with your axle covers.

I have a 2012 Heritage also and went though the same concern a few years ago that you are now. The axle covers will work just fine with saddlebags.

This is what the axle covers will look like without the bags. I haven't got the HD quick detach kit yet for the saddlebags because it says it doesn't work with saddlebag guards. The lower saddlebag support arm may hit the saddlebag guard? Because of this, and the fact that I never ride without saddlebags, I haven't made the quick detach a priority.

yeah, I'm running true dual fishtails.. even w stock I just don't know why they wouldn't work.. appears to be plenty of clearance.

There is plenty of clearance. My bags have never hit the axle covers. I could be wrong, but if I am not mistaken, the docking hardware for the HD quick detach holds the bags out slightly further than stock giving even more clearance.

Go for it.

The docking kit does push the bags out further. Shouldn't have any issues.

The inside of my leatherpro bags DO slightly get rubbed by the outside edge of the chrome axle covers. I have noticed its just slightly and it seems only at full compression of the rear shocks. I dont worry about it because the inside portion of my bags are real thick plastic and its just slightly. I would put em on and keep an eye on it.
