I have had my bike 18 months. I have had the following issues:
Engine Temperature sensor went bad @ 300 miles - replaced under warranty
Fuel pump pickup hose had a hole in it @ 5800 miles - replaced under warranty
25 degree injectors installed due to service bulletin
I had to replace the horn to get my new HD Horn cover to work.
Myopinion of the dealers customer service hascrumbled.I have had to fight or go to multiple dealers to get something accomplished.
I know this doesn't sound like much, but I am nearing the end of my warranty and I have to admit I am a bit paranoid about my bike.I am now getting freaked over evey little tap and click the engine makes. I almost feel like trading it in or selling it. I am just stressing over this stuff b/c I have had more issues than anticipated from a new bike. Honestly it is taking the fun out of it. I am getting crap frommyrelatives (who have metric bikes) saying "man, thatHarley sure is in the shop a lot".
I baby my bike, and maintain it properly, so it frustrates me to have to keep taking it in for stuff.
I have a lot of $$$ in it, and really likewhere it's headed.
Get the extended warranty, it comes in handy. I have had many issues with my Road King but IknewIwould, it's a Harley.
I took a trip from Chicago to Tampa in May. When I got to Tampa my bike went in for repairs, cam bearings and cams needed to be replaced. Extended warrantytook care of it.
I took the heat shields off after I came back from Tampa, to check the manifold for cracks, sure enough the cross pipe is cracked.
The bike is going in for it's 50,000 mile check up this week. I'll have it replace and it falls under the extended warranty.
It sure doesnt seem like a lot has gone wrong In 18 Months at all. Im not dealing w/ your salesman etc so I have no idea what that like but it sure sounds like your bike is a good one! Everything youve mentioned is been warranty work bar the Horn Cover. I think your over reacting just a tad bit.Heck If you like the bike so much as you say but are worried about it mechanicly why dont you ask you dealership about an extended warranty? I Bought a 5 year plan for $800 from HD, not some fly by night warranty place. I know they cheap sell them all the time! It seems that it would be worth every penny in your case.
As far as your relatives givin you **** about your Harley.... well wtf would they know about one? Your on the cream of the crop bike , ride that sucker proudly!
yes, you are being a sissy - after all it is made in America.
I wouldn't have a clue what warranty attaches to the bike.
Besides if it broke you can just spend the timeplanning your nextupgrade.
Most of that seems minor. If you are startingnot to trust the bike, myquestion would be, how many times has it broke down so that it wouldn't run and left you stranded?? Any other problem is probably just a minor PIA that you will be able to iron out and still enjoy the bike.
damn, never knew you could get an extended warranty. Hope that exists in Europe.
& Hell yeah, get that sucker, for $800 you can be worry free for a couple extra years, and by your post it looks like you would definitely appreciate that.
If I have a problem, I have to spend $250 Euros, ($300) just to get the bike to the dealer, as it's on another island. So i definately don't want costly repair bills also after 2 1/2 years.
Yep, that's what I expected. Was just having a weak moment I guess. After writing the stuff down last night, I thought to myself that it really didn't seem like much after all. Thanks for the kick in the butt.
I got pissed when I bought my bikebecause they added a 3 year extended contract on my bike without my consent, I had them whittle it down to 1 year so I could have some accesors out the door!
Well, guess what? I have 6 months left on my extended warrenty and my bike started to leak oil out the trans out put shaft yesterday! MaybeI should have reconsidered that!
I would have hoped she would have gone more that 3K miles before somthing like this happend.
I hear you WARG. My Honda jap bike that cost less than half of what I paid for the Harley NEVER had any problems. I didn't have to take it in for torgue smoothing calibrations. The battery terminals didn't catch the oil lines on fire. The 5th gear wasn't noisy. I replaced the exhaust without having to install a fuel management system with a dyno tune.
People will yea "Yea but its a Harley!!!!". But if its a POS, then its a POS. I havn't had any issues with my bike. I do baby it and only have about 4300 miles on her. I'm still on the fence as far as being a proud Harley owner.
