Front/Rear Master Cylinder Rebuild kit?
I need to rebuild the front and rear master cylinders. Contacted HD for a quote and its $230 for the parts. What other kits are out there? This is for a 2008 Heritage Classic. I have seen some kits while googling but wasn't 100% sure it was for the bike.
What kits have you used?

I'm wondering if you need to double check on the pricing you were given. I rebuilt the front on my 08 Crossbones and I don't think it cost more than $30 for the kit. I haven't done the rear but I have taken that unit apart quite a bit when I switched from floorboards to forward controls and installed a custom brake pedal. I can't imagine that the cost for the guts of the rear unit would be much more than the front. For $230 you can almost replace the front and rear master cylinders with new ones.

Kits are around $10-15 at the indy, you dont need an HD kit which no longer has the spring. If you pull them yourself the indy probably hit you for $20-30 in labor to bench rebuild both. You can do it yourself, nothing to it. Once done connect the lines, flush the fluid, (hint)I use a huge syringe to pull the fluid through til the air is gone, replace the cap then slowly start pumpin, bungee cord the lever in compressed mode over night. Test the next mornin.

Ouch, anything HD packages, price just doubled. Local independent shop would have sold the same aftermarket kit for a lot less. Curious if you got lucky and got old stock and the spring was included. Newer kits lack the spring. I questioned them about it and their response was ya don't need a new spring, just stretch the old one out a tad. My response I kept to myself, cheap bastids always cuttin corners...*laffs

Front brakes are back to the way they should be for $30. I didnt have to rebuild the rear master cylinder. It was the brake switch failure that caused the issue and almost burnt up my wiring. Ill make a seperate post for that.
