Default First trip on the Heritage, looking for some answers

Me and my wife just returned from an 1800 mile round trip. This was my wife's first trip on the new to her 2009 Heritage. All in all a vast improvement for her, but she had 2 issues she wants to resolve.

The first is that the oil tak gets pretty hot, and is uncomfortable on the highway, but unbearable in traffic. To the point that she felt like her thigh was getting burnt.

The second is that the boards seem to drag pretty quickly. We ran the dragon, and compared to her old ride, she felt like the boards hitting were limiting how fast she could run it. On the old bike she could run right with me, on this bike, she felt like she couldn't keep up. (At least until I got behind a slow *** car, LOL)

I already added the HD mid frame heat deflector, but they dont do anything for her.

So. . . What can be done to help with the heat and the boards dragging?

Boards dragging:
1. Buy a dyna. Haha
2. Better shocks and some ricor intimidators for your forks

Heat
1. Get a good exhaust pipe that removes the cat
2. Real air cleaner
3. A good non EPA compliant tune
4. Oil cooler

Heat issue is an EZ fix. Captain Itch Crotch Cooler I and many members here swear by them. I just ordered one for my Heritage. Good product better people. http://shop.captain-itch.com/Harley-...hields_c58.htm

The Heritage has the worst lean angle of the entire Harley lineup. Yeah it's going to drag a LOT on the Dragon. She may need to learn how to hang off the side like a crotchrocket rider.

Ditto on the Capt. Itch crotch cooler. As far as dragging.....it's not a rice rocket.

Cats are in muffler on Heritage. I've had 5 of them.
Put some Rush slip ons on it and some XIEDS from 'nightrider.com', the adjustable ones.

I never had any heat from the Oil Tank, but check out Cap'n Crotch Itch anyway..............

A good dyno tune with a non EPA compliant tuner. Ads more fuel and will run cooler. Cap'n itch won't hurt either. Boards, nature of the beast.

I'm surprised that this issue has never surfaced before. You'd think that it would've at least once or twice!

Agreed with all said BUT
* I've never dragged the boards on the Heritage, these bikes need to be ridden a little bit slower in twisties. Its not a Dyna or a GSXR
* Ive owned 3 Heritages, never had the heat prob THAT bad. Is all ok? If yes, the Crotch cooler is a welcome addition.
