Question Rear tire question - Can I fit a 150 rear tire on a 5" rim?

Some of you know that I moved the Fat Bob wheels from the Sportster to the Slim-S. Why would the setup that fits a Sportster would not fit on the Slim is beyond me, but that whatever...

Back when I did the swap, I made the rear fit by placing some spacers in the rear fender brackets. This expanded the rear fender enough to avoid the tire from rubbing.

I have never been comfortable with this solution I rather install a narrower tire and eliminate those spacers. This will also help when installing and removing the rear rack...

The concern that I have is installing a narrower tire on a 5" wheel... any adverse issues from doing so??

The curren tire on the back right now is a Shinko SR777 Black wall - Size: 170/70-16 75H - this measures 6.61"

I would like to take it down to a Shinko SR777 Black wall - Size: 150/80-16 77H - this one measures 5.91"

Stock tire is a MU85B1677H - which is something like a 140 and measures 5.59".

So the question is.... any issues using the Shinko SR777 Black wall - Size: 150/80-16 77H - this one measures 5.91" on a 16x5 rim?? A tire that is spec for a 3.5" rim....

I do not want to go back to the spoke stock wheels because of this... but I want the peace of mind of not having that mod in the rear fender for the current setup...

You may be a little pressed to find a 150 that is less than a 80 aspect ratio (I don't think there are many to choose from). The 150/80-16 Rear is the common size and a 5" rim is too wide...even by the chart above

Not sure what would be more of an issue... keep it as is or try to install that 150 to see how it behaves... still thinking about how to proceed.

I will give it a try... ordered a Shinko 777 HD Rear Tire - 150/80-16/Blackwall

If this does not work, I will just go back to the original rims/tires.

do you need to go down to a 150 or could a 160 work?

if you give up on that wheel I may be interested in it...it's the black rim that matches the slim wheels?
