Default softail heritage is begiining to feel sluggish

i have a 2001 softail heritage, im beginning to notice the bike feeling a little sluggish, like it wont move as fast as normal. at 80 it almost feels like its looking for a 6TH gear. any help would be much appreciated. I love to ride but have zero mechanical skills

If it were me I'd either take off the windshield or go on a diet!

Seriously though, Do the easy stuff first:

Read the Trouble Shooting section of your service manual. Then do all the things contained in the loss of power section:
Check your timing, check your tire pressure, check your spark plugs, check your throttle cable and carb adjustments. Check for intake or exhaust leaks.
If everything checks out contact your local independent motorcycle shop.

At 80 it probably is looking for the 6th gear.

Very first thing---For less than $8, try a can of Seafoam. I have seen it work minor wonders more than a few times. Half can in the tank then go for a ride on the Interstate.

Very dumb question - When was the bike last serviced? Air cleaner? Look for the horses, not the zebras..

This applies in many areas. We use that line in medicine as well. The most common things happen most commonly.
