A little update. I did the repairs almost exactly a year ago. Well, the last month or so the bike has been decible popping pretty good on deceleration, occasionally when shifting and has been acting up on both hot and cold starts again. Pretty much the same behavior as before, but this time the fuel pump wasn't making any unusual sounds. Well, today I bit the bullet and pulled the fuel pump assembly again just to have a look. The pressure regulator housing had once again pushed off, but not as bad as the last time. But, apparently enough to create a problem. The housing ears weren't broken this time, so I reseated it and crimped down on the retainers. This time though I wrapped a big tie wrap around the regulator and housing. Let's see that bad boy push off again! I know it's kind of cheesy, but it should work. It will certainly take some load off of the ears and retainers. Oh, the bike is running fine again..
The big tie wrap is something you might want to consider doing if you ever have to make this repair. The design certainly isn't robust enough to be completely relied on. I mentioned the tie wrap idea to the guys at the dealership and they were like, why not? If someone has a better idea, please post it up..

The plastic pressure regulator housing is a known problem. Your plastic tie is a fix, sure. Whether it stands the test of time remains to be seen.
My bike had the same problem. One of the plastic ears broke, allowing the housing to become unseated and bleeding off fuel pressure.
I didn't want this happening out in BFE somewhere, I bought the Trask aluminum housing. Peace of mind is a great thing!
