I got the Super Quiet VH baffles a few months ago. I did notice a drop off in performance, on the high end, but did not consider possible damage to the engine. I went in today and talked with a tech specialist at my local HD dealership and was told that these baffles would not incur any damage to the engine. I have a 2015 Fatbob with stage 1 air cleaner.

The reason I got these baffles was because I moved in to a rental house in a very quiet neighborhood, and I go to work at 3:30am. It did lower the decibels, but like I said I noticed a drop off in performance. I usually cruise at about 75-80mph and have bursts of over 100 mph on regular trips. After installing the quiet baffles, my bursts over 80mph have been more difficult and taken longer to reach. I did not have it tuned.

So next week I'm taking it in to have it tuned with these quiet baffles so to still maximize performance and horsepower. I really don't want to **** off my neighbors at 3 in the morning, so hope this works. I'll be moving again next year and will remove the quiet baffles. The Thunderhead exhaust also looks like a good option but not what I'm wanting to spend right now.

If you are stock my understanding is that you're probably ok. The problem seems to be with stage 1 or especially stage 2 & 3 engines which are trying to push out more exhaust than the "super quiet" baffles want to allow. I don't think you can tune that out.

Look at Jekill and Hyde, they have slip ons and are equipped with a butterfly valve that diverts flow through dampers when closed.

Have S&S Tapered Turbo's on my Slim. I reckon these are a great compromise, Great sound thats no way quiet but miles away from being obnoxiously loud.

Pretty much anything is quieter than V&H Short *****!

Do D&D make pipes that will fir your bike? If so, they make very high quality stuff that performs extremely well.

Yeah. My first experience with aftermarket exhaust was a set of Short shots on my 2008 1200 Sportster Low. It scared the hell out of me the first time I cranked up the bike. My neighbor came over to find out what the noise was! They were stupid loud and being in the garage amplified the noise. They gave me head aches if ridden on any long rides!

Jessica, D&D Exhaust makes a Low Cat model that looks great on a current model Breakout. Chrome or black.
The wrapped baffle is the quietest and produce good numbers.
