Default Softail Deluxe Tires

Sorry...it's another tire question. Seems like any thread talking about tires is all over the board so I'm sorry but I got to ask you guys with some specificity to my bike.

2010 Softail Deluxe.. currently has 8000 miles on it. Running the stock tires that were on the bike when new. Tread seems fine but the rubber is indeed 7 years old. Stored indoors during Chicago winters in a heated garage. No cracking, etc.

Can I keep them a little longer? Or WTF change them already!?

The rubber hardens as it ages. Consideration for reduced traction vs fresh tires. Don't push the limits in the first few miles of your ride - let the tires warm up. If you ride in the rain, in cold temps, downtown areas where they have streetcar tracks, etc - a fresh set of tires may be warranted. The cost/risk/benefit is really related to your budget.

Myself, I have the ability to remove the wheels and get fresh tires from an indy shop - lower overall cost. So in your situation, I'd get new. If you're paying full freight at the dealership this cost may push you to extending use of the old tires...

I think the bigger question is an 8 yr old Bike with only 8k.

Thanks for all your input! I have about 4mm of tread left on both the front and rear and no dry rot or cracking, so I'm going to take it easy in weather and wear them out a little longer!

I wish I rode it more. My sporty gets more miles since it's easy to hop on and I've got a 1970 BSA as well that requires some love...
