oil tank getting hot??
Hey guys..Ok, I'll admit I am pretty new to Harley's. I have owned my 2004 Harley Fat Boy now for about 3 months..and I LOVE it........I did notice something the other day however, I just wanted to ask about.
I was riding in stop and go, City traffic. Temp was 91F outside. I could feel the heat under my right thigh (cheek) area coming up from under the seat. I felt the tank with my hand and it was damn hot. My question is..is this tank SUPPOSE to get hot? How hot? I assume since it is oil from the engine, it will be pretty warm.
But I wasn't sure, so thought I'd ask.
Thanks

We make a product called a Crotch Cooler that will protect you from the heat that you are noticing .. It is easy to install and it actually works much better than the plastic ones .. If you have any questions please just give us a call .. Thank you Itch ..Here is a link to our crotch coolers http://shop.captain-itch.com/Harley-...hields_c58.htm

It's a Softail thing, you get used to it. The heat is coming from the rear cylinder exhaust header pipe right in front of the oil tank. You can wrap the header portion in heat tape to help, but anything you do in that area has to consider both the pipe and the oil tank need maximum airflow under speed to cool off properly. I have forward foot controls on my 07 softail standard and I rest my right foot on the forward peg at a stop light to bring my leg up higher away from the tank and pipe and use my left leg on the ground. Of course in the winter I'm scooting closer to it.
