2018 Black Tempest Fat Boy S
#103
First time I'm reading this thread.
First off, congrats on your cancer situation. That's fantastic. Oh yeah, glad you were fortunate in the fire situation.
Secondly, holy awesome sauce, your bike looks great!!!! Excellent thread.
Curious, is the RK S yours? How do you like the ride between the 2 bikes? I'm on a Switchback now and am desiring something a little more refined with better riding dynamics. I've test ridden a 2017 RK (non S) and really enjoyed it. The new Softails (Heritage and Fat Bob) specifically have my interest, but the RK (both S and non S) have my interest as well. The Fat Boy has really grown on me for the aesthetics though. IMHO, it's the best looking of the new Softails. Yours specifically is not doing me any favors and making my wallet tremble.
Again, congrats on your medical progress and.....great looking bike you're crafting there!

First off let's get something straight, there is no such thing as a Road King S. Harley Davidson released the 2017 Road King Special as a mid year release last April. It turned out to be a preview of the 2018 Street Glide Special, Road Glide Special and of coarse, the Road King Special. It is not designated as a S-Series bike. It would be nice because if so it would have shared the same 114" engine as the S-Series Softails.
As far as comparing the two rides, there isn't one. The New Rushmore Frame and enhancements along with the M8 motor makes for the best riding motorcycle Harley has ever produced, just my opinion. I added a set of Ohlin shocks and with that I can't tell you enough how awesome this Road King rides. As well as these new Softail rides, it doesn't come close to the touring line, again, just my opinion.

The Special has a larger front wheel with a lower profile tire. It is there for styling but contributes to a somewhat stiffer ride. sorry

Well I addressed the seat today. I'm 6' even and I'd really like to get moved back in the saddle some. They really isn't anything outside Harley available and it may be a few months before there are. I spoken to Chuck at C&C at they're still looking for a bike to use as a mock up. So, that leaves me with Harley's Tall Boy Seat for the new Fat Boy/Breakout. I read somewhere it moves you back 3.5" and up 3/4", it doesn't look bad in the photos and was wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to see one of these?
At a 400.00 clip, I'd hate to order one and not like what I see.....

If you want to see what the front lowers would look like an a satin chrome. Rust-oleum has a frosted Glass rattle can that when you spray over the chrome. It pretty much turns it into a satin look. The beauty is it come back of pretty easy with a mild pain stripper with no damage left to the chrome below. Inexpensive way for you to see which you prefer. I used it on the Chrome Oil Cooler Cover and turned out looking like the satin chrome that's on the heat shields. The light didn't allow the pictures to show how close the two satin chromes where. Not sure how to link directly to a post but it #86 in this thread.
