Default 2018 Breakout gas tank swap-a-roo?

New breakout gas tank looks super dumb and its near useless with a mighty 3.5g capacity.

I doubt it would be as easy as bolting on the old tank but does anyone know if that would work? Or are the mounts different now. Still not sold on the idea of the 2018s.

Pretty sure the mounting is different but I am kind of thinking a tank from a 2018 Slim, Heritage, or Fat Boy would work since they share the same frame.

Yep, I'd have to agree. I saw two 18's at the dealer last week and left unimpressed. The marketing said it's to show off the new engine better. I'm just not digging it.

As PROT stated. Yes, the other 3 share the same frame. However, they all have mounts incorporated into the top of the tank to accommodate the speedo. You can either shave the top of the tank before painting, or relocate your speedo to the tank (of course also means a new speedo). The tank mount is definitely different. Another option is hold out for thunderbike. They are currently working on a bunch of parts for the new breakout.

Thunderbike are an excellent company. But you are right - their stuff is expensive!

Most likely the Thunderbike tank for the 2018 BO is not going to hold more gas than the stock tank. Even their sleek tank for the 2013-2017 BO only holds about 3.5 gls. Plus it fu..... up the stock fuel level indication. And you might need a different fuel pump......

I've come to the conclusion that a lot of their premium priced items are made for the looks rather than for function. And you will need to do additional work to your bike cause most of their parts are not a direct bolt on.

Help me understand why you would buy a bike that you know is not going to meet your needs. As far as I'm concerned a 3.5 gal tank is a deal breaker but that's just me

This.

When I owned a Sportster 48, I posted on another forum, and it KILLED me how so many 48 owners whined about the 2.1 gallon tank. It's like, dudes, did you not know what 2.1 gallons means!?! Did you think Harley was lying about the tank size!?!

Then you had the guys who swapped out the stock tanks for bigger ones, which totally ruins the entire vibe of a 48. At least with the '18 Breakout, a larger tank would improve the looks...
