The battery tender clips are for semi non permanent connections such as my boat battery over the winter after i pull it out. Look at your battery closer. Mine came from O reilys as well, Deka, and it has both.

A battery tender can not charge a dead batery You need to charge it with an automobile charger than put the tender on it.
