Just curious......

These new 114 dual counter balanced Softail motors with their longer stroke might be even more fun with the HD Torque Cam and HD tuner while retaining full warrenty.

Some have, as I have seen their posts. From what I read, the Torque Cam is loved. What I never understood from looking at the graph of the Torque Cam is why it is not the stock factory cam supplied in the bike. It has the perfect characteristics for general use. It is as if HD had to design a lower performance cam than would be expected to supply as stock just so people must buy and install the TQ cam...

Both Indian and HD do this.

It is obviously to increase shop work and parts sales for the dealers as it would cost no more to initially build the motors equipped with the Torque Cams and proper ECU flash.

After all they are fully EPA Approved.

That’s been a constant for anyone who buys HD. They make a ton of cash on upgrades/customizing, as do aftermarket companies. Look at the mark up, a king luggage rack for a road glide is $239, you can buy one, aftermarket, for around $129, works just as good, looks fine. It’s a marketing game.

Gotta say we also do it to ourselves...

Does my 114 need the torque cam? Not for one second! Plenty of torque everywhere.

Am I thinking about adding the torque cam? Yup.

Just my own damn fault...

Lol. This is the marketing strategy in a nutshell. The "want" vs. the "need"

lol, yup. Whole reason I bought the bike was "want" to begin with. Now I'm stuck in a want loop. Hey, That reminds me, I want to go riding

Can't speak for the 2018 models, but past model factory cams were specced mainly for emissions.

It's the same for the '18, even the torque cam is EPA friendly. It's just that stock seat of the pants power feels less choked to begin with than previously.

Still always wonder about "more"...

Doesn't really happen much in the rest of my life. Make enough bread (probably realize I don't if I ever try to retire), like my house (occasional tweaks), three great kids (yup, plenty), love my wife (yeah, not messing with that...oh hi dear)

The bikes must get all the left over wanderlust.
