2018 Street Bob Forward Controls
#81
I cant edit my previous post. I meant use 3/8 breaker bar to loosen capscrew then 1/4 socket stuff to remove completely. Lots of people get confused because earlier models had the inner lever welded to the shaft so it was all of to get it out.
If you are swapping controls with a FatBob owner then yes the primaries have to come apart and swapped over.
HD do make a plug for the shaft hole but its plastic.
This is after a year of use, nickel plated coach bolt

My dealership was thinking of leaving the mid shift shaft in place thus sealing hole. A method they used on dynas when moving controls. They would cap the shaft on the outside so you don’t see the threaded end of shaft. They do not want to weather coat a bolt to seal (I wish they would) This leads me to a question... what hole needs to be capped? Aren’t there two holes created by removing the shaft? I have my hands on a 2018 FATBOB primary cover. Is it the inner primary that needs seal?

Up tp you, personally it is not needed and if they leave the inner lever on it is going to bang around and mark up the case. The outer hole is capped for aesthetic reasons, doesn't need to be. BTW, there is no threaded end on that shaft, both ends are splined. That shaft hole is sealed even with the shaft removed.
FYI, the probably leave it in on Dynas when converting because the inner lever is welded to the shaft which means they would have to remove everything on the primary side to get the inner primary off to get the shaft out.

Another forum member contacted me with his 2018 Fat Bob. He wants to do a full swap including primary. He only lives one hour away. My dealership agreed to pick up and drop off his bike. Labor around $350. Parts free with a few more needed. Thanks to this tread I saved hundreds!
With that said I have a 2018 FATBOB outer primary I purchased now unnecessarily if anyone would like to purchase. $40 free delivery. The only difference then your street bob is the hole where the gear shift is.

Bought my 2018 SB in September. I am 6'1" and have been dying for the forwards. I have been considering as the others have done but decided to wait. Low and behold I went on HD website yesterday and they finally have a kit listed in New arrivals, ordered mine can't wait!!!!
