Is anyone familiar with Feuling part # 7097 race series oil pump system. Just ordered one today for the sumping issue. These guys knew the problem before I described it and said they have the fix. Not cheap at $1199 but a lot cheaper thank regular breakdowns and Harley not having an oil pump remedy. Back ordered for 2 weeks, I’ll let everyone know if it fixes our pump issue once I get the bike back in a few weeks. Thoughts?

Holy sheeit! $1199 for an oil pump.

Have you actually had a sumping issue that makes you want to spend that much cash?

Yes, twice. First time they replaced the pump with the updated one, second time it fried my engine. So, yes, it's worth it until Harley has a better option. All within 2500 miles of a new 18 FLHXS.

Still not a Softail example that I know of. I’ve been through the cases of the touring M8 and the pump will always just be a band-aid on larger issues. Band-aid is better than nothing. I’d be interested to know if there were changes to the internal case design architecture on the Softails...

If sumping is the question look up and compare the 2018 crankcases for the Softail and Touring: https://shop.outpostalaska.com/OEMpartfinder.htm

Note the increase in size to accommodate the second rear counterbalancer to the rear in the Softail crankcase. Might make a difference in internal volume and sumping behavior?

In the camshaft diagrams they appear to share the same oil pump assembly 62400178

As of now I don't think I have ever heard of any 2018 Softail owner reporting oil migration/transfer on this forum.

Regarding sumping, as far as I can recall we have heard of only one Softail reporting sumping, triumph900's Fat Bob.

I hope like hell they don't.
The only case I have heard of a cable actuated model transferring was a guy that was parking his bike in a shed leaned over to the right side. Oil would pool in the side cover and the primary would suck it through the mainshaft as it cooled off. So as long as you park the bike upright or on the side stand you’ll be OK.

As for sumping, the extra crankcase volume from the second counter balancer may be why sumping in the Softail models is rare. Really doesn’t seem to be an often reported issue as with the touring models.
