Default Rear shock adjustment tool doesnt fit.

Hi all. I bought THIS Spanner wrench to adjust the rear shocks on my 2003 Softail Standard. I finally got around to adjusting the suspension and the width between the tabs on the new spanner are spaced about 1/4"-3/8" to far apart so needless to say it wont fit in two holes of the shock at the same time.
I'm quite certain that the shocks are the stock black Showa shocks as printed on the label. Has anybody run into this problem before?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Bob.

Grinder w cutting disc; from the center of the "Y" end cut a slit in the tool toward the hole in the end of the handle about 1/2 to 3/4 the length of the tool. Squeeze the prongs together in a vice. Its not like you can ruin the tool.
