Default Mineral to Synthetic

I have a 2007 Softail Deuce, 96CI, 6 speed. It was broke in and run on mineral oil the first 20,000 mile. I have been told I cant switch to synthetic because it will start leaking. Is using semi-synthetic and option of should I just stick to the good ol' mineral oil?

Total bs - you can run synthetic. Ignore the uninformed person telling you that you can't. If a bike has weeps/leaks/seeps, it will typically show up more with synthetics but synthetics do not cause leaks. If it does have weeps/leaks/seeps, that's gaskets and sealing, not oil.

+1. Run either one you want. Ride safe.

MIGHT have been true decades ago when things still used cork gaskets... but now, no way.

You are using a modern bike (2007), I dont understand in the year 2018, because there are people using mineral oil nowday in modern motorcycles.
Repair the gasket to fix the oil leak and use synthetic .

Ed’s previous post was correct, it was the guy in the mechanics uniform telling me to stay mineral because it had to many mies on it to change synthetic.

If you switch from dino to syn there's a good chance you'll hear more engine noise, especially from the top end.
