Default Which to buy?

Hello All,

New to the traditional air cooled HD V-twin as my current ride is an 02 V-rod which is a totally different beast.

I am looking at purchasing either a 98 Heritage SoftTail with 19,000 miles on it or a 2004 Heritage SoftTail with 21,00 miles.

Both bikes appear to be in good shape with no internal mods in the motors.

Looking for advice on what to watch out for in the different motor models and as I try to do all my own wrenching which would be simpler to work on.

Thanks for any help!

Is there a large price difference between the two?

Inner camshaft bearing on 98. Might as well install a better camshaft & lifters while you in there.
Camshaft chain tensioners on 2004.

the evo's are very solid after a cam bearing change....just do lifters every 30-40K. Cam that evo an you have a nice bike. I like the twin cams too (I have one) but the sound of a carb cammed evo is sweet.

They are both really good bikes...... above are the two issues, with both.... inner camshaft bearings and lifters on the '98 and cam tensioenrs, inner cam bearings, and lifters on the twin cam...

I've owned both, loved both... if they are equal in condition and properly priced, I'd give a nod to the '04 twin cam if it's EFI... other than that, let your heart make the choice....!
