Default Road King to Heritage Classic ?

Thinking about trading my 14 RK in on an 17 or 18 Heritage Classic. What is appealing to me is the ability to pull the bags off and the rear pillion off and it looks basically like a Deluxe. 90% of the time my bags on the RK are basically empty. Then if I want bags and or to take the old lady along just throw the stuff on. How well do Heritage's handle compared to a RK? How well do Heritage's do riding two up? Is there a difference in smoothness between the 103B and the 107's now? I had an 07 Night Train that used to buzz enough it'd make my hands numb fairly quickly, something my 14 Wide Glide didn't do. Are the 107/114 engines rubber mounted now?

Like TriGeezer said, a test ride is how you're gonna know.

I've had a Road King, and now have a Heritage. I much prefer the Heritage. The new M8 Softails do not have the buzz that the TC Softails have.

Click HERE to see a Report I've done on a couple of the new Softails.

They are not rubber mounted, but much smoother, less buzz.

Test ride is how you're gonna know what's right for you.

107 & 114 engines are solid mounted to the all new 2018 frame with coil over mono shock. Demo ride one and all your questions will be answered instantly.
Cheers

I agree with the demo ride...but the dealer test rides here suck ***. How's anyone supposed to know anything on a 10 min 35 mph test ride around the block in traffic. I miss my old dealer in Cali that used to just give me a bike and when-ever I got back with it was good with him.

Do some demo riding on both 17 & 18 heritages. Some dealers do have old new stock. Well at lease around the Seattle area. Big thing they are two different bikes.
18 has some very great upgrades.

Hmmm...great question. I actually went the other way. I went Heritage cause I thought the same thing about the bags and giving it a different look however, for me I found I rarely removed the bags and after I test rode a '17 King - the handling and suspension were noticeably better (I'm old with an iffy back.) I also like the hard bags as opposed to the bags on my Heritage. Don't get me wrong - I loved my Heritage but there is a reason they named it the King!

Now - it could be a whole new ballgame with the '18 Heritage - I think they look fantastic and I have heard the suspension is better. Aw shucks - guess you are just gonna have to take a test ride!

Best of luck!

Between a 17 and an 18, 18 no questions asked.

As the prior owner of a 17 Heritage and now an 18 Slim(I know the slim is not an 18 Heritage), the difference is night and day. Beyond the motor, which I feel is leaps and bounds over the twin-cam, the suspension is crazy good now. My buddy likened my 18 slim to riding a sport bike in how it handles. He also has time on a prior generation softail(I believe a heritage).

The only thing I dont like about the new heritage is all the black on it. The Deluxe, to me, is a much better looking bike, but to add the windshield and bags is somewhere around another 1000 bucks.

The '18 Heritage is an entirely different bike as compared to the '17 and earlier Heritage, not even in the same ball park. Light years different in improvements, to say nothing about being lighter.

Thats the other way I was thinking - deluxe and then add the bags I want. Probably Boss Bags. Not sure about all the black.
