2018 Heritage Trip to Sturgis
Hi All,
Just returned from Sturgis. 1,300 Miles to get there. 1,000 miles riding the black hills. 1,250 miles to get home.
The bike performed like a champ. No issue whatsoever and what a blast riding this bike in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Cincinnati to Black hills and rode about 400 miles each day highways and Interstates on the way there and mostly interstates coming home. I had the Tallboy seat with a sheep skin cover, stock windshield, and lower fork fangs. Wind was never a factor. Bike was very comfortable to ride. I used the Harley roll around luggage as a back rest and the Harley backpack on the luggage rack. More than sufficient storage for 10 day trip.
Never had a speedo fogging issue (i've had that a few times prior)
Checked oil and tire inflation each day... always checked good
Bike had plenty of muscle and then some to get around semis (we all know this to be true!)
Overall I give the bike an A-. I'm sure a street glide or road glide would be a better choice for long touring but I ain't complaining!!

I did 2000 miles on mine to NC from FL in June, I have a Saddleman seat which is an improvement over stock, has a bit more room. Same as the OP I used the HD roller bag as a backrest and had enough room in it for an 8 day trip. The bike behaved well, no buffeting on the interstate but it wasn't windy. The bike has a shed load of oomph which is not unexpected given the 114 ci.
I'd also give it an A-, the saddlebags are just too small especially when you are putting a jacket and hoodie away when the day warms up yet also carrying rain gear, map, compressor, tools and first aid kit and water etc. Those bags will open on the road if you slightly overstuff the bags, even locking the latch they will get forced open. Try to buy a T shirt on the road and you have to choose to re-arrange the saddlebags (and risk the bag opening while you're riding) or unbungee the roller bag and remove the waterproof cover and stuff it in there.
