Touring to fatbob - advice please

Hi all.
long time member in the touring section but new here.

I would appreciate your thoughts please;
i have a 7 year old ultra classic (103) that i have spent another 10k in parts on to get it how i want it.
My problem is i really want a 114 fatbob - best harley i have seen ever...
Questions i cant answer:
i love music when i ride.
i like the wind protection on long rides
i occasionally take the old lady out (she likes comfort)
i still like the ultra.

i cannot have or afford 2 bikes but love the fatbob as its quick, and handles well. I used to ride sportsbikes many years ago and miss the feelind - maybe the fabib has it all

any suggestions ??????

Hi. I did exactly what you're thinking of. I traded in my 2016 street glide for the 114 fatbob. I to come from dirt bike and sport bike past. The glide was awesome but I never rode two up and mostly use to ride to work and back. I decided I wanted a smaller bike that I could toss around. The fat bob is smooth, powerful, nimble and pure fun! I do not regret it for a moment.

I use a full face helmet with a sena so I get my music that way when needed/wanted. This bike wouldn't be fun for two up riding. At least I wouldn't want to sit on the back of the bob. Lol. The only downside to the fatbob for me is you'll be stopping for gas more frequently. Not a deal breaker but that's one trade off. Oh. You might also have to use a backpack or tank bag as you might miss the storage/bags

good luck with the decision.

BTW. Your bike looks sweet! :icon_bike:

I put a sundowner seat on mine for the wife, she says its comfy but we haven't gone on any long rides yet. The lack of wind protection would be my biggest concern if your wanting to tour on it, Harley makes a windshield for it but I think it looks pretty lame, if i was doing lots of interstate i would still use it though.

Get the full size windshield. The compact keeps the wind off your chest but that's about it. You'll have a blast riding it, though!

Just checked out the sundowner seat - looks ok.
i swap seats on my glide fron solo to dual so i guess thats one thing fixed

i saw somewhere that someone had fitted a small nose fairing to the front - any ideas where that is from ?

thanks for the replies so far, appreciated.

You may be interested in my experiences in turning the Fat Bob into a touring bike while still maintaining its sporting character. You might want to read the whole thread, but the touring update is here:

I did the same thing. I actually had a 2011 Street Glide that I bought new in 2011 and just sold last year. I also had a Sportster 48 at the same time that I thought was at least a million times more fun than the Street Glide. I ended up selling them both to get a single bike that fits my needs.

My "needs" are really basic.

1) fun to ride
2) comfortable enough for full day riding with buddies or to take a short weekend trip

The Fat Bob does it! No regrets. I love this bike. :)

Suggestion: Rent a Fatbob for a weekend when you need to get a Fatbob fix.
