Default Lean Running Bike

I've got an 07 Heritage which runs lean. That by itself is understandable, but what could cause a bike to progressively run leaner and leaner over time? I don't have any issues in the fuel tank, so that's out. For the life of me I can't figure it out..

How have you measured the increasing leanness?
Or what are the symptoms?

Haven't made any kind of measurements, but it's decible popping and gurgling. That in itself is a little normal, but it's getting worse and worse and has even now started popping between shifts. It used to not do any of that.

Are you sure it’s leaner and not richer? How long since you changed the air filter?

I don't think richer would cause the popping. That's a symptom of a lean condition. The air filter was replaced just a couple of months ago..

Possible air leak at the intake manifold or exhaust header.

This sounds like a possibility to me.

Too rich can cause it too. Unburned fuel igniting inside the exhaust. Or, as others have mentioned, en exhaust leak can definitely cause it.

My bike was doing the same thing a few months ago. I changed intake seals, changed and reseated exhaust several times. No luck. Bike was popping at first and got progressively worse - coughing, sputtering and stalling sometimes when hot and coming to stop. I went thru bike, checked all wiring, replaced several things. Again, no luck until I got a bad intake air temp sensor code l, replaced it, and all problems went away. Bike has run great since then. Are you getting any codes?

I haven't gotten any codes at this point. As long as this has been going on and getting progressively worse, I'd expect a code, but nada..

Do you mean air intake sensor or head temp sensor? I replaced the head temp sensor and there was no change.
