Sound of styrofoam rubbing together while riding
I occasionally get a noise that sounds a lot like two styrofoam coolers rubbing together. It seems to come from the left side almost dead center. I noticed it yesterday after getting hit by a strong gust of wind. I generally have to stop to get the noise to stop, and it doesn’t come back immediately, if at all on that ride. Of course, it won’t make that noise if I’m trying to show it to someone, lol. |

Check your drive belt. |
Yes, it sounds like a rubbing drive belt.

do the two coolers have beer in them? if so, what kind?

This may sound stupid, but you sure it’s not coming from your helmet? Lol, yeah, there is no styrofoam in my helmet. I almost wonder if it has to do with the windshield mount. |
I have the sound you speak of once in a while on a stock 2017 Slim no windshield....Have not tracked it down yet and would be interested to know.....

Yeah, it really sounds like it’s coming from the area of the primary, so the suggestion that it was a squeaky drive belt seems plausible. |
My 2018 Fat Boy does that too. Not all of the time. Sounds like its from the top right side, near the air cleaner. I know it's not the drive belt as it lets one last "chirp" out as I shut it off.

when the noise occurs, lay your right hand over the gas cap, see if it stops. I had 3 replaced under warranty on my Heritage 114-ended up crimping inside rind to stop vibrating noise.
