Matt, satin or dull vs. shiny.
How I like mine.
But for many years, I lacked the proper materials to work with. Then came 3M

I like it!! :icon_headbang: ....and not a look you see everyday. How about a few more pics? I'd like to see the whole bike from both sides!!

I did all exposed aluminum there was.
That was what ever wasn’t covered in paint. And the Slim is pretty bare, other than tank and fenders or struts and bars.
I also did the 90* tube part of the air cleaner which is chrome. May do the rest of it, but I actually don’t mind a hint of chrome here and there. As long as it isn’t dominant.
I’ll take more pics tomorrow at some point. Gonna be real busy Rockah. But thanks for the compliment bro!
Coming from you, that means a lot

....Was wondering that myself....took years to get a box of scotchbrite and a can of WD40? Ole splattttttt, his posts are a hoot.

Thnx Greg

Regular scotch brite (green) and wd40 never worked as good as this new 3M pads
Used some of their older pads in the past. These are way superior. And are actually very forgiving.
Easy to undo a previously rubbed spot if your results didnt go right
This pad shown is the heavies of three grades they make and can gauge the sutface on some aluminum. So use it lightly once the protective coating is gone.
Works really well on chrome. Really amazing hiw easy the shine comes off.
Seeiously tho Greg.
I have used just about every thing out there to get close to what I have.
I am really impressed.
if you are into metal finishing. You will want this by the case. They last well but will brrak dow eventually

That looks real good dude.So much for black bikes matter.....brushed aluminum it is!

SlimBarberJoe 03-04-2019 01:42 PM

Did the same to my 2017 Slim with a scotch-brite pad and some WD-40.

Just remember to stay with whatever direction you start off with !

LOL
The MoCo used it extensively on their 2018
I like many I’m sure am a fan of brushed metal finishes. Or even naturally accuring patina that develops over time.
But on a riad vehicle, with all the dirt and chemiclals that they collect, they just dont weather nicely enough to appreciate it. Coming up with methods utilizing solvents, hemical and other finishing texhniques is all we can do to try and duplicate such results. As an artist, it can be bery frustrating when experementing and constantly eunning into walls.
This pad from 3M is exactly what I had hoped I’d find someday to get the look I got with it. I really couldn’t ask for anything better other than a bead blaster.
But with that, you would have to take the bike apart and even then, you would still need the right media. Same like this pad.

The pads come in a pair and I think I paid $4
