Default 88 to 95 inch without cams

has anyone done the 95 inch upgrade with cylinders and pistons only, not changing cams ? is it worth the trouble or no big difference?
Thanks

I did the 95" upgrade with cams.... big seat-of-the-pants difference..!

My opinion is that cams make a bigger difference that you can feel v just the 7ci of added displacement.... there is a reason the progression of mods goes from air cleaner & exhaust, to cams, to big bore kit, to heads, etc...

My opinion.... do cams alone, or the big bore kit WITH cams, to feel the biggest improvements...

My only 2 suggestions would be :

1. Do it all at the same time since half the motor is apart already.

2. If you don't do CAMS then use Adjustable Push Rods so you don't have to take the top end off to do CAMS when you decide to at some point..

3. Just a quick edit, You can actually wait on installing Adjustable Push Rods and cut the stock ones out when changing the CAMS and then install Adjustables..

and then some CAMS need a higher Compression Ratio...It never ends....

My 2005 Fatboy is an Anniversary Model and came from the factory with a 95ci engine and stock 88ci cams. It did have a different MAP from the 88ci model. Overall when I got it comparing it to others with the 88ci there was a very small difference. A little more low end Tq but not much. If I matched up with friends that had stock 88 at the time on a 0-60 - 70 mph pull I would only have a few bike lengths on them. most of the difference was noticable at the start and if you did a "roll on" acceleration in any gear without down shifting then my 85 would pull a little stronger.

88ci with SE203 cams would slightly pull my 95ci, especially in the higher rpms.

I put SE 203 cams in it at 6,000 miles and a Fuel Moto tune off a power commander and it really woke up. A lot more than the 88ci with cams.

IMO if you are going to do the 95 ci kit do cams too otherwise leave it 88 ci and add cams. For the $ adding cams to an 88ci will get you more than just doing the 95 ci. But the 95 ci and cams is worth it.
