Cushioning for a rear seat?
 

Hi folks, I'd like to make my wife's passenger seat a bit more comfortable, and hopefully a bit thinner. Has anyone swapped out the regular foam for something like one of those "Purple" "hyper-elastic polymer" grid type seat pads?
Any potential downsides? Should it be ok over hard bumps? Those cushions are supposed to be pretty good.

I've never heard of that stuff, but I'd be a little apprehensive to use it. If you seriously want to make Momma happy, the send the back pad to Mean City Cycles and let them do it right for her, they've already done 2 of my front seats and just got the pillion back, did the basic passenger seat Mod, she loves it. 5 hours of back country roads and nearly 200 miles and not a peep from her.

If we're off on a long ride I simply strap on the Road Zeppelin passenger air pad on and it greatly enhances the ride.
Running around town there's no need for it.

Not sure how well you can see the seat.... not added under but sets on top and can be easily added to the luggage.
But traded the Ultra in (custom seat) for the Deluxe and rather than take a bath on another custom seat (right out of the gate) I just brought the Everywhere Cushion (as they call it) with me.
This one came with the cover.

Mind you this was just over a month after surgery and I took my annual trip to visit my father.

As far as putting it "in" the seat, make sure you put some soft foam over it.
Other wise I can see a possible ripple effect, not sure how well it will do with pulling the seat cover tight either...

I plan to bring it on our TX & ND trip in just under 2 weeks.

Thanks, but this situation is a bit different. I had a passenger seat that sat on the fender with a bolt and some suction cups. I didn't like that, so I had a friend modify my removable backrest to make it so the seat is part of the back rest and sits an inch off the fender. This allowed us to get a wider seat, which should be more comfortable, but it turns out to be very thick, also. I want to tone down the thickness of the seat so she isn't as high and is still protected from bumps.
I'll post up some pictures when I get home next week.
