Please help....gear issues!!!!!!
Hello all, I am really needing some help!!!
I have just purchased a fatboy 2007. I was changing the gear linkage. Job done. Went to put the bike in neutral and it doesn’t seem to find it. When I go up the gears there only appears to be finding about 4. Further more I tried to start the bike and it won’t start. It jumps forward like it’s in gear!! I only did this once but something is wrong obviously!! What is is going on??? I hope I haven’t damaged anything whilst installing the new gear linkage. Any help will be really appreciated. Many many thanks Bob |
If it is difficult to find neutral the most common reason is clutch adjustment. Also if it jumps forward when trying to start with the clutch pulled in that also confirms your clutch is not working correctly, not disengaging.
Check your clutch adjustment. you can also disconnect one side of the linkage and shift it at the lever by hand to see if you can find neutral and all gears |
Did you put a shift rod on with spherical bearings? They need to have some play. Only grade 2 loose SS ones for a sailboat will work. Those with Delrin bushing are too tight. Harleys should only be started in neutral. They all jump if started in gear when cold. Oil clutches with multi-disk get stuck from oil film.
Post some pictures and explain all you touched and went into. Was the bike and clutch OK before you started? |
