I just did the 98 kit this past winter with S&S heads, had 510 cams and gear drive. S&S e-type carb and Rekluse clutch. Everyone has been giving great advice, look at the balance of parts and see if your budget supports. I looked at the 124 kit but you literally need to look at every piece and upgrade to suit for reliability.

I've never seen anyone make back their money on mods but I know I love the 98" and it has all the grunt I need and pulls like a freight train. Good luck on your decision and let us know how it turns out.

If you do any serious upgrades you need to do everything related in my opinion, you will have less problems if all you're parts are matched. if you go with S&S I would recommend the Easy-Start cams, they have a very nice video a demo, watch how long the battery lasts vs the Harley without the Easy-Start cams especially if you go with high compression. I would also recommend a tour of their facility. Call ahead a few days ahead though each tour is just for you're group. Everyone in management has worked at ever station on the production floor. Great people and tried and tested product.

IMO go with a complete kit from the same manufacturer. S&S are great kits, dont do the Big Bore without cams. The HD Stage Kits are OK too and there are many builders out there that have their own combinations. Most important is a proven matched setup IMO.

All of the labor is something a DIYer can do at home other than pressing the cams out of the support plate. But any HD shop will usually do that for you for a few dollars.

If you are paying for the install (labor) find a local indy with a good reputation over the dealer you can end up saving close to 50%. Also most of the HD Dealers Ive run across only want to use HD SE parts.

1. The least expensive power boost is cams alone and a tuner and IMO it is the single most noticeable upgrade. Since your bike is a 2000 Twin cam if it has not been done you need to get rid of the spring cam chain tensioners with either gears or hyd setup. So cams are a given since you have to pull them to repair the weak link in your engine. Cams and a Hyd tensioner / oil pump up grade will cost you about $ 1500

2. Big Bore and cams, add $ 1,000 -1,200 for the BB kit and another $ 300 - 500 labor if already doing cams and tensioners so about $ 3000-3500
Then a tune for whatever you do on top of the mods.

If $ is an issue try cams alone for now and see if it is enough. Most shops will knock it out in a day

I see you are in Woodland Hills there is a good , fair priced shop in Lancaster about 40 miles from you called MGS Performance https://mgsperformance.com/
