Best Oil Dipstick..
So its kind of a dumb question but if anyone else, like me, has had this issue you will understand my concern and question. So I have an 08 Softail Custom and oil keeps getting onto my oil tank and its a new issue that Ive been dealing with. My friend has a 13 Fat Boy and had the same issue we basically narrowed it down to the OIL DIPSTICK isnt holding "suction" if you will. And while riding it spills through the rubber seal and onto the oil tank, exhaust, etc. So my question is: What is a top quality OIL DIPSTICK that will seal and stay sealed over a long period of time? I dont want a cheap shitty one that will just have this same issue happen again and again so I want to know what a top brand would be to get. I understand everything gets old and used over time and things like rubber give out but theres got to be a quality dipstick out there that stays true to its name. Just curious if anyone knows or if its a normal issue as things get old.. thanks.

The softail I got recently had switched to one of those temp dipsticks and it leaked too. Luckily he gave me all the stock parts he took off, I put the stock dipstick back in and it no longer leaks oil.

The dipstick isn't the problem. It is the O-ring on the dipstick. Get a different O-ring so it will seal better.

Ive had 3 different ones since owing my fatboy, stock, digital temp and analog temp. All eventually get looser as the rubber seal hardens.
As posted above just go to your local hardware store (I use Lowes) and in the plumbing section buy a pack of O rings ($2) and roll one of them over the rubber seal to about 1/2-3/4 up the rubber. It needs to be tight so it stretches and is not too thick. It will tighten up the fit of the stick as you push it into the oil tank neck and no more leaks |

Too bad all mechanical issues aren't this easy to solve.

Mine just had the rubber plug. I took a round file an made the groove around it for a larger O ring. That way there is no way for it to roll off. I took a hack saw and cut off the dip stick. All it would do is drip when I pulled it out. Just look in the tank to see the oil level. K.I.S.S. Works great for about 10 years now.
