Default Question about Softail triple trees

This is a long story that sounds like then person who wrote it was severely inebriated. So if you want the short of it go to the next paragraph. ***Full Disclaimer*** I can't make this stuff up. I have a friend that while he's not really all that stupid, he does some really dumb stuff. So his other friend, who does actually have intellect of a rock, wanted to start riding, but couldn't afford the payments on a Harley. For simplicity's sake, we'll call my friend Bonehead and the other guy we'll call Dip Wad. Bonehead felt bad for Dip Wad and for some reason put his credit on the line for the guy and took out a large loan on an 03 Night Train for his friend to ride. Suffice it to say that they got a bad deal on that bike. Dip Wad was supposed to make the payments and eventually take full ownership of the bike after it was paid in full... while using the bike he wrecked it to varying degrees 5 freaking times. Some how the bike was never totalled. Dip Wad supposedly pocketed the insurance cash only making absolutely necessary repairs to the bike. Well push came to shove and little white lines quickly became more important than making payments. So in order to try and keep the bike, and I don't understand this logic, Dip Wad road the bike into a ditch. Bonehead finally got fed up with Dip Wad and took the bike back. Now it sits, beat to hell, and has sat for nearly a year. He can't sell it, and he's tried, because the pay off is way to high, he doesn't want to default on the loan because he's saving up to buy a house...I finally convinced him to let me help him mod it into something he'd actually want to ride and doesn't **** him off every time he looks at it sucking up space in his garage. He wanted to buy a Heritage before this crap happened, so we're going to make it into a Heritage and do some S&S stuff to the engine.

So first things first. We've got to get it riding straight again, so we're starting with bars and front end changes. And my first question is, are the front ends on a Heritage and a Night Train the same width? Thanks in advance.

You can go to one of the online parts finders and compare thr front end parts between a Heritage & Night Train... while it won't give you dimensional differences, it's a quick way to see if they share any parts, and/or what parts are needed to make a switch over from one to the other...

Frame to frame should be the same, so if you buy parts that are from the same year as the current Nightrain frame parts should bolt on. There will be changes in fork width and wheel sizes etc.. so you will have to buy all the parts from that year heritage to make it fit right. Ebay will be you friend on this project.... good luck
